Which should I do: Microblading or Nanoblading?
When it comes to cosmetic tattooing or permanent makeup (PMU) there are so many different options it can be confusing. Technology is always changing and it’s our job as artists to always be on top of the newest and best technology out there!
For the past 5-8 years people offering hair stroke brow tattoos were using handheld tools with micro needles because they were the smallest needle offered, that is until recently when nano needles became available. What’s the difference? Nano needles create a finer hairstroke than micro-needles.
Why is a smaller needle preferable? When mimicking hairs, the finer the line the better, in most cases. Hair itself is very small, and when tattooing the skin outside sources can affect the way skin heals. Sometimes these outside sources cause the fine lines to heal thicker. Things like skin type, texture of the skin and oil in the skin can cause a thicker healed line. Highly trained artists understand your skin and how tattooing will heal, so they always make the best choice of needle, typically opting for the smallest needle possible. When healed you are left with small, tiny hair strokes that appear to blend right in with your natural brow and the look: seriously undetectable. Even clients with oily or imperfect skin can experience natural looking results with a nano needle.
Your artist will decide whether micro or nano is right for your skin type.
Most of our artists will always grab for their nano blades because of the reasons listed above BUT there are times micro needles are needed. For example, if you have thick, course hair a micro needle may be the best choice. It’s all about the artistry of the brow and our artists achieving the most natural, pleasing look possible. As always, great aftercare can improve your result even further.
I hope this cleared up any confusion about the differences between nano needles vs. micro needles! If you have any other questions, please reach out to us, we’d love to hear from you!
